Pursuing Self Mastery With Consistency

Updated: May 20, 2023

Welcome, today we will be talking about consistency's role in creating momentum. Momentum is a requisite for achieving success in whichever endeavor you are currently pursuing. It doesn't mean to be completely rigid, devoid of creativity, or spontaneity. This is where many "gurus" go wrong. There has to be enough variance to allow for God's divine will to play out in your life, but enough order that your pursuits be fruitful.

Routine helps build momentum to counteract cognitive load and resistance. Cognitive load refers to the mental effort and strain required to perform a task or activity, which can lead to feelings of overwhelm and difficulty in completing the task. However, there are other aspects to consider in actively pursuing goals without getting lost in it.

#1 Routine, to counteract resistance.

#2 Consistency for continuation.

#3 Time budgeting for balance, which allows for precision.

Personally, blocking out a morning routine that includes prayer, and exercise will give you direction, and rejuvenation. You can then work the rest of the day without anxiety that you haven't done what you wanted to do besides work.

I know that I can lose track of time when immersed in a task, that I won't do anything else. It was a mistake to immediately approach work (doing the most difficult task first). No, do the most important thing first, which is spending time with God. Sometimes it's hard to make the necessary room for other things that matter like personal health, and loved ones. This is why the pursuit of success requires discipline to wake up early enough before work. Most won't be able to, but those that make the necessary sacrifices, will pass through the narrow path of success.

Now, there is nothing wrong with work, and nothing wrong with a high drive. For the LORD tells us in scripture

"You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours." - Psalm 128:2

He is letting us know that we can and should enjoy the work of our hands.

"So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?" Ecclesiastes 3:22

Also, the Lord tells us in scripture how to approach work, and why we should approach it this way.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, " - Colossians 3:23

"That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe." - 1 Timothy 4:10

However, we must make time for the most important commandment. Love God with all your heart, mind, and soul. God is the ultimate creator of order. To have order we must have structure, which is why a routine is crucial for success. You won't get it right every time, but the process as far as it relates to self mastery will forge you as iron sharpens iron. Without God we are directionless, therefore putting him first even in your day, not only is a sign of reverence and respect, but provides the ultimate source of drive and direction.

Sincerely,

Gabriel
